stop the legacy highway

******  LEGACY HIGHWAY ACTION ALERT  ******

LETTERS TO THE ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS AND EPA NEEDED NOW

The sprawl inducing, open space destroying Legacy Highway is back. The first segment of the 120-mile Legacy Highway has a new alignment. It will destroy over 118 acres of Hemisphericaly recognized wetlands and facilitate the development of many more. The people of Utah and the EPA have demanded that UDOT consider mass transit options that will reduce traffic congestion and stop sprawl. UDOT continues to ignore both and is committed to building the sprawl inducing, 120-mile freeway that will make us the next Phoenix.

Letters to the Army Corps and EPA are desperately needed now!

Please take a few moments to write a letter to Brooks Carter of the Army Corps of Engineers and send a copy of it to William Yellowtail of the EPA.

Tell them:

  • The least damaging alternative for transportation through the Davis County corridor has not been presented. UDOT is only seriously considering a road. Building a convenient, high-speed mass transit system along with non-sprawl development IS the least damaging alternative. Not the Legacy Highway!
  • This is the first segment of a 120-mile, sprawl inducing freeway. If built, it will lead to the connectiveness to the other segments of the Legacy Highway.
  • New roads in open areas facilitate low-density sprawl that induces traffic. Instead of reducing congestion, roads cause the congestion that fills them.
  • Do not permit the Legacy Highway.

Please send your letter quickly to:       Print a copy and forward it to:
